  • A Study in Contrasts

The homeowners wanted their kitchen to have a complete make-over. Wood Wise worked with them to create an open floor plan which resulted in a pleasing harmony of light, beauty, and design. Watch the transformation:

  • Light up your room

On a cold winter’s day light can be like a healing balm to the body and mind. Windows placed in strategic places can capture the changing pattern of the sun’s rays throughout the day. Pella makes choosing energy-efficient windows easy by offering a variety of sizes and shapes to enhance any room.

  • Be happy at home

After 22 years and over 400 home remodeling projects Hank Wall, president of Wood Wise Design & Remodeling, has accumulated much wisdom and insight about homes and people. He hopes to share with others what he has learned on his new blog. In his first posting he gives ways we can change our home environment that will uplift us and more truly reflect who we are now. Check out what Hank has to say at:

  • Opening Up

Removing one wall enlarges the feel of this kitchen and encourages family interaction. Tumbled marble forms the backsplash for the granite countertop.

KraftMaid cabinets with a maple ginger finish and sable glaze provide warmth.
  • Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and Gas Logs

What could be better than to spend a cold winter evening in front of the fireplace? Watching the flickering flames can be mesmerizing and help put the cares of the day behind us. So who could imagine that something so inviting and comforting could possibly be dangerous for our health? For many of us gas logs have become the convenient and cleaner way to experience this relaxing time. But safety and precaution should be taken with all kinds of fires. Ventilation even for ventless gas logs is required. Pilot lights on some gas logs burn continually unless specifically extinguished by the homeowner. Many health issues can come from the quiet poisoning that comes from the carbon monoxide emitted by that pilot light. Careful monitoring of carbon monoxide levels is needed and can be provided with carbon monoxide detectors placed in the home. These detectors are available from Lowe’s Home Improvement starting at less than $30.

  • Sharing with others

Helping the community has always been at the heart of Wood Wise Design & Remodeling. This season we have made donations to Neighbor2Neighbor, WakeUpWakeCounty, YMCA, Yestermorrow School, Urban Ministries, and more. Along with this, Wood Wise president Hank Wall has volunteered his time again this year with the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign. Hank’s observation while ringing the bell: those who appear to have the least seem the most eager to give.

Donning his Santa hat for the Salvation Army, Hank Wall's warm smile encourages us all to give generously.
