  • Home Tour Success

Thanks to all who came out to see us on the Remodelers Home Tour this past weekend. We had a great time. Our tour home showcased a beautiful remodeled kitchen with KraftMaid cabinets and a great screen porch. The screen porch featured a stone fireplace and a bluestone floor that inspired all who saw it. Here’s a photo of the porch if you missed it:

  • Attractive Organization

Side entrances to homes can become a drop-off point for all the stuff of life: shoes, coats, sports equipment, etc. Providing an attractive and orderly side entryway was the goal of Wood Wise for these two homes. With plenty of cabinets and easy access for all family members, staying organized is made beautiful.

  • Beverages with Style

One big benefit of remodeling? Entertaining becomes more enjoyable. Having a well-designed space becomes a reflection of a person’s life. As guests and family gather together, the kitchen often becomes the center of activity. Some homeowners are opting for a beverage bar for their guests’ easy access. Here are some beautiful examples from Wood Wise projects:

  • Making a House a Home

The kitchen always seems to be the gathering place. Whether starting the day, sharing after school and work, or winding down at night, family and friends are drawn to the “heart of the home.” These homeowners needed their kitchen to be that kind of multi-purpose space, with places for family members, large and small. Features such as the large island and breakfast table, professional gas range, and window seat help make this Wood Wise remodeled kitchen warm and welcoming.

  • Swimming in Style

These homeowners have been enjoying their pool all winter. When Wood Wise helped to remodel their home, they decided to build a pool that would not be weather-dependent on its use. With features such as a vaulted ceiling in cypress with cypress beams, cultured stone walls, and shaped pool, this great addition surrounds family and guests in climate-controlled beauty.

  • Imagining the Possibilities

One of the goals at Wood Wise is to help clients visualize great design and efficient use of space in their homes. Kevin Diamond, our newest team member, is helping us to do just that.

As a current student in the NCSU School of Architecture, Kevin brings good skills in the computer design programs of Auto CAD and SketchUp. He is able to turn 2-D drawings into 3 dimensional designs that make the spaces easier for our clients to see. As Kevin puts it, he “brings to life” the great designs that Hank and Kathy bring to him.

Wood Wise’s design/build model lines up exactly with Kevin’s life goals: to bridge the gap between design and construction as part of a successful remodeling experience for our clients.

  • Checking In

Following up with clients at both 60 days and 11 months after a project is finished is an important part of the Wood Wise process. When the homeowners respond they often comment on how much they are enjoying their newly renovated home. Here is what one homeowner said recently at the 11 month check-in:

“Still enjoying the porch and kitchen and glad we went as big with the renovation as we did. It’s definitely been worth every penny – I put blankets out on the porch and sit out in the cold and watch the birds…”

    Design Corner:

One of the first comments we hear from our homeowners after finishing a project is, “The renovation has made our life so much easier!” New cabinets are a big reason for this enthusiastic response. Wood Wise carries KraftMaid and Waypoint cabinets. Both lines offer multiple features that help with organization and ease of use. Some of these features include: convenient appliance storage, roll-out shelves, multi-storage pantry solutions making better use of all the space available, drawers with cutlery dividers, pull-out knife section and much more. Full-extension soft-close drawers provide easy access to contents. Wall cabinets feature adjustable shelves for maximum storage capacity. Our cabinet showroom allows you to see and experience these features.
Call Wood Wise today to set up an appointment and let our designer, Kathy, help you on your path to a beautiful remodeling project.

    Performance Remodeling

    by Hank Wall, President

    Wood Wise Design & Remodeling

Magazines show remodeling as improved appearances. Sometimes homes need performance updates. Homes built before 1990 may have builder-basic windows, the lowest performing on the market. New windows seal out drafts, operate smoothly, tilt in for easy cleaning and have a Low-E coating to bounce body heat back into the room.

Homes have parts that wear out. Replacing your refrigerator is more of a performance upgrade than a new look. Refrigerators built before 2014 consume 25% more electricity than a new Energy Savings model. Plus the shelving is easy to clean and adjust. New refrigerators use 1/5 as much electricity as 1970’s models.

Last year Wood Wise replaced all of Mike and Jean Carter’s kitchen cabinets (above). While the new cabinets look great it is their outstanding performance that they are celebrating. Pots and pans roll out with lids on in deep, full-extension drawers. Pantry cabinet shelves roll out to make life easy. Great performance while cooking and putting away groceries adds to their home enjoyment.

Our partner for new and replacement windows is Pella. We like Kohler plumbing fixtures. KraftMaid and Waypoint are our two cabinet lines and both have lots of performance features as standard items. We stand by Trane heating and cooling systems since they offer outstanding performance at a good value.

What performance remodeling do you have to address? Email any questions to [email protected] and we will be happy to help.
