This primary bathroom in a Raleigh home still had its original tile, a tub behind a curtain, and a single sink. The homeowners wanted a room that felt current without losing the character of the house.

The answer was to lean on classic patterns. A black and white marble checkerboard runs across the floor, and the shower floor uses a traditional octagon-and-dot mosaic, both of which feel at home in an older home. The color comes from the shower, where 2.5″ x 8″ Riviera Moss Green glossy tile runs vertically on the back wall, shifts to herringbone on the side wall, and continues across the ceiling. A warm “Truffle” grout keeps the lines soft. The Waypoint vanity in Cherry Clove, with two sinks, a marble top, and brass hardware, brings warmth to the rest of the room.

The front entrance to a home sets the tone for the hospitality awaiting inside for the guest. This beautiful home and the homeowners were gracious but the house lacked a welcoming entrance. The western sun weathered the front door and standing in the rain wasn’t the best.

Wood Wise was able to design and build the homeowner’s vision of a beautiful, covered entrance with columns that fit the Georgian style of the home. Blue stone floor, new wood door, and black railings further the new look. The Haint blue ceiling gives a Southern kiss to this beautiful porch.

This 1960s kitchen was tight, dark, and cut off from the rest of the house, a narrow galley with a wall separating it from the old dining room. Taking that wall down changed everything. The kitchen now opens straight into what had been a rarely used room, and the whole main level breathes differently because of it.

The new layout gave us room for a proper island, new Waypoint cabinetry, and quartz countertops that hold up to real cooking. New over-head lighting with the under-cabinet lighting over the food prep areas mean the cook is no longer working in their own shadow. What was once a cramped corner of the house is now where the family actually gathers.

When this family envisioned their dream outdoor living space, they didn’t just want a place to sit — they wanted a destination. The result? A stunning screened porch that seamlessly bridges indoor comfort and outdoor living.

The centerpiece is a soaring cathedral ceiling with dramatic white-painted timber framing. The expansive screened walls flood the space with natural light while keeping the elements at bay — perfect for entertaining year-round. Sleek black metal railing adds a modern contrast to the natural wood.

The porch connects effortlessly to the existing home and the pool, creating a layered outdoor living experience that feels both intentional and luxurious.

With the addition of a dormer, this attic has become an integral part of this family’s everyday life. The extra headroom gained from the dormer allowed the new bedroom which has an extra-large closet to help compensate for the smaller closets on the first floor of this 1940’s era home. The finished space includes a full bathroom, dedicated laundry room, and even a cozy reading nook. A new placement and reworking of the original steep stairs makes ascending to the second floor easier.

Through accurate measuring, she creates the “as-built” version of a client’s home. Cheryl then takes Kathy’s proposed design options from 2D floor plans to beautiful 3-D renderings. This makes it easier for our homeowners to see the architectural blueprint designs come to life in a realistic view of the finished product. Here are a few examples:

A well-designed kitchen is like a musical composition. These homeowners had a nice porch with a popular vinyl enclosure system. The problem? It was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter to be the place where they wanted to hang out.

Wood Wise transformed the porch into a beautiful, conditioned sunroom with insulation, large Pella windows, and a mini-split heating and cooling system. A better grilling deck was also added along with updated steps down to the backyard. Now the homeowners spend time enjoying the room and the clearer view to their backyard more, whether reading, entertaining, or watching TV.

Gatherings with family and friends during the holidays seem to always center around food. Having a kitchen that is efficient and conveniently arranged can make all the difference.
